What is curry?

What is curry?

Curry is not a single spice, often is a fact that might scare someone who is used to the idea of adding the curry to create food from India. As a teacher of Indian cooking is not uncommon for me to meet students who do not realize this.

In fact, the word curry just talking is the simplest game in English from the masala Hindi word that translates to mean a mixture of spices. In the language of India, the word curry refers to the gravy or sauce that is usually the base of the food of India, Indian curry just like something a little dry.

However, meshing these two concepts that capture all the dry spices (spice mix OK) and the sauce surrounding the food, a whole base in a mixture of curry can be created. In its most basic form of Indian seasoning is balanced and complex. This may seem a contradiction but it is very symbolic of balanced and complex culture that is India.

So going back to a mixture of curry, to find a mix that would make a good curry is needed mixture is hot, sweet, aromatic, bitter and spicy responding to the whole balance of flavors. A common mix that works can be a combination of spices that are listed

Hot: Red and Black Pepper
Sweet: Fennel seeds
Fragrant cinnamon, cardamom and cloves
Bitter fenugreek seeds
Sharp, cumin and coriander

So there you have it, try this in a mixture of averting the next curry in India
